Selection process
In order to apply to the Swiss Ruinart Sommelier Challenge 2019 fill in the application form by answering all questions and completing the fields with your personal and contact details. The application deadline is January 18th 2019.

The Jury will evaluate the answers and nominate 20 participants who will be invited to participate to the Swiss Ruinart Sommelier Challenge on February 3rd in Zürich. The selected participants will receive an invitation via email on January 23rd 2019.

20:30 – Standing Dinner

Aperitif & Dinner: your partner is warmly invited to join the aperitif and dinner at the end of the day.  The Ruinart Winemaker Caroline Fiot and Paolo Basso will be present.

Overnight: for two people in a double room in Park Hyatt Zürich. Check in on February 3rd and Check out on February 4th.

Evaluation & prizes
In the afternoon of the challenge day, the jury will evaluate the written tests and identify the winner. The winner will be announced on this website on February 5th at 12pm.
The winner will participate to the Champagne trip in July 2019 together with the winners of all the Ruinart Challenges in the World.


Caroline Fiot
Winemaker Ruinart

Driven by her passion for chemistry and biology, Caroline Fiot chose to study Agricultural Science and Agronomy at Montpellier SupAgro, with a specialization in viticulture and winemaking. She first put her studies to practice in the appellation of Saint Emilion Grand Cru and followed her passion and held several positions at Baron Philippe de Rothschild.
Caroline Fiot joined Maison Ruinart in 2016 as a winemaker under Cellarmaster Frédéric Panaïotis.  At Ruinart, she oversees the fermentations during harvest, and she is part of the Tasting Committee. Moreover, she leads a series of Research and Development projects, including lightstruck and microvinification.  

Paolo Basso
Best Sommelier of the World 2013

Winner of the ‘ASI Best Sommelier of the World’ title in 2013, Basso is one of only six sommeliers in the world to have won both the European and global titles for ‘Best Sommelier’. He is also member of the technical committee of the International Sommelier Association (ASI). Member of the jury of the most prestigious international tasting competitions, he also works as lecturer and wine teacher at the Wine School in Changins, Switzerland, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland and at the Worldsom Sommelier Academy in Bordeaux.

Roxane Dupuy
Winner of the Swiss Ruinart Sommelier Challenge 2018

After an internship at "The petit Nice" in the city of Marseille, Roxane moved to Lausanne to explore and discover more about the Swiss' vineyards.
There she worked two years as a Sommelier for the "Beau-Rivage" palace, operating in chef Anne-Sophie Pic fine dining restaurant. A rich experience which drove her to achieve the "Ruinart challenge". Ever more curious about the wines of the new world Roxane recently decided to relocate to London, joining the Sommelier team of Sketch, in the Lecture Room & Library, the 2 Michelin star restaurant of chef Pierre Gagnaire.  

Peter Moser
Peter Moser was born in 1961 in Krems, Austria.
He is descending from the famous Austrian wine dynasty Moser. 
Since 1997 he has been Editor-in-Chief of the Falstaff magazine, responsible for the wine department, and he has traveled the globe and its wine regions since the mid-1980s, developing a thorough and extensive expertise in tasting, scoring and transmitting his passion for wines, vineyards, and wine-makers.
